100% Cricket Future Leaders Programme Returns in 2024 with a Fresh Approach
The International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Leaders Programme, a part of the 100% Cricket campaign, is set to return in 2024. This initiative aims to nurture emerging female leaders in cricket and is a strategic move by the ICC to expedite the growth of women’s cricket and their participation in the sport. The programme also promotes gender equity and empowers women and young girls through cricket.
So far, the Future Leaders Programme has successfully completed three batches. Each batch paired mentees with mentors who are senior leaders from the cricket world for a period of six months. The mentees received training and support in their respective areas of expertise, enabling them to handle real-time and real-world issues and projects.
In 2024, the Future Leaders Programme will concentrate on two specific workstreams: Coaching and Administration. This is to address the issue of the low representation of women in leadership roles within these areas.
The Coaching workstream will initiate two regional programmes in 2024, starting with the ICC’s East Asia Pacific region at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier. The programme has paired ten upcoming female coaches from six countries with each participating nation: Fiji, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, and Indonesia. This eight-month programme, supported by ICC Hall of Famer and ICC Master Educator Cathryn Fitzpatrick, offers an exciting opportunity for aspiring female coaches to hone their skills in a tournament environment and build networks while receiving support throughout their coaching journey.
