Arshdeep Singh Emphasizes Incremental Improvement as Key to Success in T20 Cricket

India’s promising left-arm pacer, Arshdeep Singh, attributes his ascent in T20 cricket to a philosophy of continuous self-improvement, even if it’s by just half a percent per game. Speaking to JioHotstar, Arshdeep shared, “I’ve always believed that the biggest room in the world is the room for improvement. Whenever I get the chance, I engage in constructive self-criticism and strive to enhance my skill-set, even if it’s just by 1% or half a percent.”

At 26, Arshdeep has become a pivotal figure in India’s T20 setup, notably shining during the T20 World Cup last year. India clinched the title by defeating South Africa in the final held in Barbados, with Arshdeep leading the bowling attack with his remarkable performances. His T20I record boasts an impressive tally of 99 wickets in 63 matches.

In the Indian Premier League (IPL), Arshdeep represents Punjab Kings, where he started the 2025 season on a high note by taking two wickets in their opening match against the 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans. Punjab secured an 11-run victory, kickstarting their campaign with hopes of capturing their maiden IPL trophy under the new captain, Shreyas Iyer. Reflecting on Iyer’s leadership, Arshdeep noted, “I have played with Iyer before, under his captaincy in the Duleep Trophy, and I really enjoyed it. He always backed his players and gave them the freedom to express themselves. What I’ve noticed here is that his approach remains the same — he doesn’t impose rigid instructions but encourages players to trust their skills and play for the team. He promotes a selfless approach, assuring full backing to the players.”

Arshdeep’s dedication to his craft also extends to his performances under pressure, a quality he relishes. “I enjoy stepping up when the team is under pressure — whether it’s stopping runs or taking wickets. When they hand me the ball in crucial moments, it feels good to know that they trust me. I genuinely enjoy the added responsibility, regardless of the situation. I try not to feel the pressure and instead focus on delivering my best for the team,” he explained.

Arshdeep concluded by emphasizing the importance of patience and learning from mistakes as crucial elements for success. “Success doesn’t come overnight, but I ensure that any setbacks don’t affect my bowling. Every time I get another opportunity, I give it my all to help the team win.” His approach not only highlights his growth mindset but also underscores his role as a vital asset for the Punjab Kings and the Indian team in their quest for T20 glory.
