Ashish Nehra Unveils His Coaching Philosophy at Gujarat Titans: ‘No Rocket Science’

NEW DELHI – Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra has provided a candid glimpse into his coaching philosophy, underscoring the significance of stability, simplicity, and personal growth as the team gears up for their IPL 2025 encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Nehra, the architect behind Gujarat’s remarkable title victory in their inaugural IPL season in 2022 and a commendable runners-up finish in 2023, is now embarking on his fourth season with the franchise. In a revealing interview on JioHotstar’s Aava De, Nehra elucidated his coaching mindset, which revolves around fostering an environment where players can flourish without the burden of pressure.

“In a tournament like the IPL, the first thing players need is stability,” Nehra stated. “My approach is straightforward — let them be. Nobody is judging them. Especially when they’re new to the setup, they need time to settle in.”

With the frequent squad changes following auctions, Nehra highlighted the importance of building chemistry and maintaining clarity. “Every three years, nearly half the squad is new. So the challenge becomes how quickly you can build that chemistry. I believe in doing the basics right. No rocket science. Just keep it simple — but keeping it simple isn’t always simple.”

Nehra also expressed unwavering support for captain Shubman Gill, confident that the young opener is poised to lead GT into a new era. “Gill has the hunger to learn and stay grounded. If he continues to evolve with the game, the sky is the limit for him — not just as a batter, but as a captain who can steer this team forward,” Nehra concluded.
