Bangladesh Cricket Team Announces New Captain Across All Formats

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed Najmul Hossain Shanto as the new captain for all three formats of the game. Shanto’s first major challenge will be leading the team in the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the USA and West Indies later this year.

Shanto’s leadership skills were on display during the two-match Test series against New Zealand, which ended in a 1-1 draw on home soil in November-December 2023.

His captaincy was also tested during the away series against the Kiwis, where Bangladesh managed to secure a victory in both the ODI and T20I series.

Despite his brief tenure as captain, Shanto has already led the team to three victories in 11 matches.

Shanto steps into the shoes of Shakib Al Hasan, the former captain in the white-ball formats for Bangladesh. Shakib was recently diagnosed with a retinal condition, but the medical team is optimistic about managing his condition effectively with a conservative approach.

In addition to this, the BCB has announced the appointment of Gazi Ashraf Hossain as the new chief selector.
