Erasmus to Lead Namibia in T20 World Cup
Gerhard Erasmus, the talented all-rounder, has been appointed as the captain of the Namibian squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Erasmus will be at the helm of an experienced team that qualified for the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, thanks to their unbeaten streak at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier held on home ground. JJ Smit has been named as the vice-captain.
Squads Announced for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024
Twelve out of the 15 players who featured in the successful qualifying run have been selected again for Namibia’s 15-player squad. The most notable exclusions are all-rounder Nicol Loftie-Eaton, veteran Pikky Ya France, and young batter Shawn Fouche.
Loftie-Eaton made headlines in February by scoring the fastest T20I century in men’s cricket history with a 33-ball effort against Nepal. However, the 23-year-old has been overlooked for the tournament in June, co-hosted by the USA and West Indies.
Newcomer seamer Dylan Leicher, left-arm quick Ruben Trumpelmann, and teenage pacer Jack Brassell, who played in the ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup earlier this year, are the new additions to the squad.
Namibia, making their third consecutive appearance at the T20 World Cup, are placed in Group B. They will kick off their campaign against Oman in Barbados on June 2, followed by matches against Scotland, Australia, and England.
