ICC Joins Forces with LA28 and Other Sports to Honor International Women’s Day
In a unique collaboration, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has joined hands with four other sports recently included in the Olympics – the International Federation of American Football (IFAF), World Lacrosse (WL), World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC), and World Squash Federation (WSF). This partnership aims to celebrate International Women’s Day under the banner “Inspire Inclusion,” featuring athletes from these sports striking the “inclusion pose” .
International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is a global event that acknowledges the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. It also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
Top athletes from these five sports, recently confirmed for inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics – Smriti Mandhana (Cricket), Diana Flores (Flag Football), Erica Evans (Lacrosse), Kelly Maxwell (Softball), and Nour El Sherbini (Squash) – have united to promote the message of inclusion through a video discussing their personal experiences with inclusion.
“It feels like winning,” shared Mandhana, the vice-captain of the Indian women’s cricket team.
“It feels like togetherness,” echoed Flores, the quarterback for Mexico, who clinched Gold in the 2022 World Games.
“It feels like you can inspire the world,” expressed El Sherbini, the world’s top-ranked women’s squash champion.
“It feels like someone’s got your back,” added Evans.
“It feels like every woman can dream bigger,” asserted Maxwell.
ICC General Manager – Marketing and Communications, Claire Furlong, Speaks on the Initiative
“International Women’s Day is about using our collective voice to accelerate gender parity. What better way to do that and celebrate inclusion than to partner with the four sports that, along with cricket, were recently included in the LA 28 Olympic Games,” said Claire Furlong, ICC General Manager – Marketing and Communications.
“All five sports have a clear commitment to parity and this film celebrates that with the world’s best athletes aiming to inspire inclusion for the next generation,” she added.
