ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings: Mendis and Mathews Ascend
Sri Lankan all-rounder Kamindu Mendis and ex-captain Angelo Mathews have climbed the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings. Their performances were instrumental in Sri Lanka’s 192-run triumph in Chattogram, sealing a 2-0 series victory in the ICC World Test Championship against Bangladesh.
Mendis, with his impressive scores of 92 not out and nine, has risen 18 spots to the 46th position in the batters’ rankings. His three-wicket haul in the second innings has also boosted him 46 places, landing him at the 117th position among bowlers.
Mathews, who once held the third rank in August 2014, has moved up two spots to 25th after scoring 23 and 56. Kusal Mendis, another Sri Lankan batter, has advanced three places to 52nd after a first-innings score of 93.
In the bowling rankings, Asitha Fernando has climbed seven places to 27th position following a four-wicket haul in the first innings. Vishwa Fernando has risen from 43rd to 41st with three wickets in the match, while Lahiru Kumara has ascended from 46th to 44th after claiming six wickets in Chattogram.
Bangladesh opener Zakir Hasan, who scored 54 and 19, has moved up three places to 75th position in the Test batting rankings. Mehidy Hasan Miraz has risen from 99th to 88th after a brave 81 not out in the second innings. Mominul Haque has climbed four slots to 46th position after scoring 83 runs in his two innings.
Debutant fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has made his entry into the Test bowling rankings in 95th position, after taking six wickets in the match.
