ICC Unveils New Anthem for Men’s T20 World Cup
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has launched a new sonic brand, set to be the official anthem for all ICC matches. The anthem, which captures the vibrant spirit of cricket across its various formats – Test, ODI, and T20Is, is the creation of renowned composer Lorne Balfe.
Balfe’s compositions are well-known in the world of cinema and television, with his recent works including Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1, Life on Our Planet narrated by Morgan Freeman, Black Adam, Luther: The Fallen Sun, Top Gun: Maverick and Black Widow.
The anthem will make its debut at the opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup between USA and Canada in Dallas, Texas on 1 June, 2024.
The anthem, composed by Grammy-winner Lorne Balfe, was created at the prestigious Abbey Road Recording Studios in London. The score, which utilises a mix of orchestral instruments, cricket equipment, and in-game sounds, creates a stirring soundscape that mirrors the anticipation, triumph, and celebration inherent in the sport.
The anthem celebrates the rich diversity of cricket culture and aims to provide a visceral experience for the game’s followers across various ICC event platforms.
Balfe expressed his delight at leading this landmark project, describing the anthem as an embodiment of the spirit of the game.
“Working with the ICC and composing the new anthem has been a great experience. The anthem is a symbol of unity, and the goal was to reflect the spirit of every boundary crossed and wicket taken in this wonderful, timeless sport,” he said.
Chris Tetley, the ICC Head of Events, expressed his satisfaction with the new sonic brand, stating that it matches the intensity of the sport on the field.
“We are proud to share this special project with the world. The process of creating this new sonic brand identity has been as intricate as the music piece itself. We are proud to have a sonic logo that matches the visual work that takes place both on and off the field,” he said.
“The music will serve as an auditory expression of our sport’s unique nature of nation versus nation competition and the significance of World Cup events. Our objective is for it to bring cricket top of mind whenever it is heard and will take listeners on the journey of highs, lows, anticipation, and triumph that the sport is well known for,” he added.
“It has been a delight to partner with COOL Music Ltd who has led on this project to bring the passion of cricket and music together,” Tetley concluded.
