India Climbs to the Top of the World Test Championship Standings
Prior to the Wellington Test, New Zealand held the top position in the World Test Championship (WTC) with 36 points from four games and a points percentage of 75. However, a crushing 172-run defeat saw the 2021 WTC champions lose their top spot, dropping to second place with a points percentage of 60.
Current ICC World Test Championship Standings
India, previously in second place with 62 points from eight matches, have now ascended to the top of the table, boasting a superior points percentage of 64.58. Meanwhile, Australia further solidified their third-place position with an impressive victory over the Blackcaps, a triumph largely attributed to their star spinner Nathan Lyon’s six-wicket haul in the fourth innings on Day 4.
Despite the win in Wellington, Australia remains in third place, but they have added 12 crucial points to their tally, increasing it from 66 to 78.

Their points percentage has also seen an increase, moving from 55 to 59.09. The 2023 champions now have a chance to overtake New Zealand and ascend to the second spot if they secure a win in the second and final Test of the ongoing series against their Trans-Tasman rivals.
Furthermore, Australia has the potential to reach the top spot if England manages to defeat India in the Dharamsala Test, which is set to commence on 7 March.
The next face-off between the two teams will take place in Christchurch, with the final Test scheduled to start on 8 March.
