India Reclaims the Pinnacle in the ICC Test Team Rankings

Despite a narrow 28-run defeat in the opening Test in Hyderabad, India bounced back emphatically to clinch the remaining four Tests against England. Triumphs in Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi, and Dharamsala have propelled the team back to the apex of the ICC Test Team Rankings.

The team’s unyielding performance throughout the series has enabled them to surpass Australia. India now boasts 122 rating points in the rankings table, with Australia trailing at second place with 117 points. England holds the third position with 111 rating points.

Regardless of the result of the second New Zealand-Australia Test in Christchurch, India’s position at the top remains unchallenged. The reigning ICC World Test Championship 2023 winners, Australia, are currently leading the two-Test series 1-0, following their 172-run triumph in Wellington.

With this victory, India has now ascended to the top of the rankings in all three formats. They hold 121 rating points in the ODI rankings, with Australia closely following at 118 points. In the T20Is, India leads with 266 rating points, with England (256) in the second spot.

From September 2023 to January 2024, India had slipped to the second place in Test Team Rankings following a 1-1 series draw against South Africa. Australia had then seized the top spot in the Test rankings, courtesy of their clean sweep in the three-Test home series against Pakistan.

India also leads the ICC World Test Championship Standings table, boasting a points percentage of 68.51.
