Ishan Kishan Maintains Focus Amid Speculations of Potential T20 World Cup Selection
“The T20 World Cup selection is beyond my control, and I am currently taking things easy,” Ishan Kishan stated on Thursday, 11 April, following his impressive 34-ball 69 run performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, leading his IPL team, Mumbai Indians, to a comfortable victory.
“One must take each match as it comes. It’s crucial to understand that many aspects are not within the players’ control,” he added.
After a personal hiatus from international cricket, Kishan returned to the competitive scene in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Kishan last represented India in November, having requested a break during the South Africa tour in December-January. Despite the break, Kishan continued his practice and made a comeback in February during the DY Patil T20 Cup.
The opening batsman adopted a ‘positive mindset’ to handle external distractions, particularly those stemming from social media.
“I continued my practice during the break. When a player takes a break, it often becomes a subject of gossip, and social media can be harsh. However, it’s essential to understand that not everything is within a player’s control. The best we can do is make the most of the break. This is what adopting a positive mindset means,” Kishan explained.

Kishan, along with Shreyas Iyer, was not included in the BCCI central contract list for the period between October 2023 and September 2024. Despite this, Kishan remains positive, focusing on what he can control.
“I don’t feel the need to prove anything to anyone,” he said. “My goal is to go out there and enjoy the game. I’ve learned not to burden myself with things beyond my control. It’s important to distinguish between what’s within your control and what’s not,” Kishan added.
As of now, Kishan is the leading run-scorer for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024, amassing 161 runs at a strike rate of 182.95. Kishan represented India in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and was part of the T20 World Cup squad in 2021.
