Jonny Bairstow Celebrates His 100th Test Appearance for England
Jonny Bairstow joins the elite club of cricketers who have made 100 Test appearances, becoming the 77th player to achieve this feat. He follows in the footsteps of England’s captain, Ben Stokes, who reached this milestone during the Ranchi Test match last month. Bairstow is now the 17th English player to reach this significant landmark.
Among the current English squad, only Joe Root and James Anderson have more than 100 Test caps, joining Bairstow and Stokes in this exclusive club.
In his final innings of the Cricket World Cup, Jonny Bairstow scored a brisk half-century. He made his Test debut at Lord’s in 2012 as a batter and assumed the role of wicketkeeper in late 2013 during the Ashes series in Australia.
With a total of 5974 runs in Test cricket, Bairstow has an average of 36.42, including 12 centuries. He has also made significant contributions behind the stumps with 242 catches and 14 stumpings.
Despite a slip in the outfield in Mumbai, Bairstow managed to hold on to a challenging catch. One of his most memorable performances in Test cricket came in the fifth Test of a series against India in Birmingham in 2022.
With England trailing 2-1 in the series, Bairstow’s twin centuries in both innings of the Test match led England to a series-levelling victory at home. His exceptional performance played a crucial role in England’s successful chase of a daunting target of 378 in the fourth innings.
