Mahela Jayawardene Provides Update on Jasprit Bumrah’s Recovery: ‘Everything Seems Okay, But…’

Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene has provided a crucial update on the recovery of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who continues to recuperate from a back injury at the BCCI Centre of Excellence. Speaking on the eve of MI’s match against the Gujarat Titans, Jayawardene shared insights into Bumrah’s ongoing rehabilitation process.

“Everyone is available except for Bumrah. Like I said in my last interview as well, it’s on a daily basis that he’s going through his programme,” Jayawardene stated, emphasizing the day-to-day nature of Bumrah’s recovery. Despite the positive progress, Jayawardene was clear that there is no specific timeline for Bumrah’s return to the field. “So far, everything seems okay. But there were no timelines given by NCA, so we’ll wait on that,” he added, indicating a cautious approach to the pacer’s comeback.

Turning his attention to the broader context of the IPL 2025, Jayawardene addressed the high-scoring trend that has characterized the tournament so far. However, he expressed confidence in MI’s experienced bowling attack to adapt to the challenges presented by different venues and oppositions. “We’ve got a very experienced bowling attack, and they don’t think like that. Each venue and opposition presents different challenges, and that’s something we will focus on,” he explained, highlighting the team’s strategic approach to the competition.

In addition to updates on Bumrah, Jayawardene also touched on the status of Arjun Tendulkar, who has been recovering from a brief illness. The coach confirmed that Tendulkar will be considered for selection if required, indicating the team’s readiness to utilize all available resources as they navigate through the IPL season.
