Maxwell Matches Sharma’s Record with Spectacular Century

2nd T20I, Australia vs West Indies, Scorecard

Glenn Maxwell delivered a stunning performance at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday, scoring his fifth T20I century in the second T20I against the West Indies.

Coming in at No.4 following the dismissal of Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh, Maxwell’s start was shaky, with a top-edged hook shot landing in an unoccupied area of the field.

With David Warner’s dismissal in the following over, Australia found themselves in a precarious position. However, Maxwell found his rhythm, hitting a massive six off Akeal Hosein in the eighth over.

Maxwell’s six measured a whopping 109 metres, a truly impressive feat. This was just the beginning of a series of big hits from the Australian all-rounder, who added two more sixes in the subsequent overs.

When Rovman Powell stepped up to bowl, Maxwell dominated the over with four boundaries. He reached his half-century in just 25 balls, but he was far from finished.

Another 25 balls later, Maxwell celebrated his century as Australia comfortably crossed the 200-run mark. His onslaught ended with two fours and a six off Andre Russell in the final over, taking Australia’s total to 241/4, their fourth-highest in men’s T20Is.

Maxwell’s unbeaten 120 was his fifth century in T20Is, equalling Rohit Sharma’s record for the most hundreds in men’s T20Is. It also ranks as the fifth-highest individual score by an Australian in Men’s T20Is.

Despite a challenging target set by Australia, the West Indies batsmen struggled to keep up. Although the lower-order contributed to the team crossing the 200-run mark, they fell short of the target by 34 runs.

With this victory, Australia leads the three-match series 2-0, securing another series win at home.
