Former Pakistani cricketer, Mohammad Amir, has announced his availability for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, reversing his previous decision to retire from international cricket.

Amir, who retired from all forms of international cricket in 2021, has been actively participating in franchise T20 leagues across the globe.

The 31-year-old recently played in the Pakistan Super League, representing the Quetta Gladiators, where he took 10 wickets in 9 matches with an economy rate of 8.41.

Amir, renowned for his skill with fuller length deliveries, delivered a hostile opening over in the 2009 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final, setting Sri Lanka back with pace and bounce.

Amir expressed his readiness to play for Pakistan again on social media, following positive discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

“I still dream to play for Pakistan!” wrote Amir. “Life brings us to the points where at times we have to reconsider our decisions. There have been a few positive discussions between myself and the PCB where they respectfully made me feel that I was needed and can still play for Pakistan. After discussing with family and well-wishers, I declare that I am available to be considered for the upcoming T20WC. I want to do this for my country as it comes before my personal decisions. Donning the green jersey and serving my country has always been, and will continue to be, my greatest aspirations.”

Before his retirement, Amir had played 50 T20Is for Pakistan, scalping 59 wickets at an economy of 7.02. His last T20I was in August 2020 against England.

Amir’s announcement comes a day after Imad Wasim also reversed his retirement to make himself available for the T20 World Cup.
