Pakistan Announces Home White-Ball Series Against West Indies

In April, Pakistan will welcome the West Indies for a white-ball series, consisting of three One Day Internationals (ODIs) and five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is).

The trio of ODIs, scheduled for the 18th, 21st, and 23rd of April, will contribute to the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25. Following this, a five-match T20I series will run from the 26th of April to the 3rd of May, offering both teams ample opportunity to fine-tune their preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup later this year.

All matches will be held at the National Bank Stadium (NBS) in Karachi. This marks the West Indies women’s second tour of Pakistan since 2021, following a successful visit in November 2021 where they clinched victory in all three ODIs.

The forthcoming ODI series will be the fourth women’s series hosted by Pakistan, following previous series against Sri Lanka (June 2022), Ireland (November 2022), and South Africa (September 2023).

In the current ICC Women’s Championship standings, Pakistan holds the third position with 16 points, while the West Indies languishes at ninth with 8 points.

Pakistan’s final series in the current IWC cycle will be a tour of England in May 2024. The upcoming T20Is will also allow both teams to kickstart their preparations for the Women’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Bangladesh in September this year.

Tania Mallick, Pakistan’s Head of Women’s Cricket, expressed her excitement about the upcoming series. She highlighted the importance of the series in promoting women’s cricket and providing Pakistani players with international exposure. She also emphasized the significance of the series in building relationships and strengthening bonds between cricketing nations.

With the ICC Women’s Championship 2022-25 nearing its conclusion for the Pakistan women’s team, the stakes are high for the team to qualify directly for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. The team’s current standing reflects their determination and dedication, and they aim to secure maximum points from the three championship matches at home.

Later this year, the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup is also taking place. In light of this event and the team’s recent good performances in the shortest format, five T20Is have been scheduled against West Indies. The T20I series will assist the selectors in finalizing the squad for the mega event.
