Priyansh Arya: The Second-Fastest Indian to Smash an IPL Century

NEW DELHI: In the world of cricket, where legends are born from moments of sheer brilliance, Priyansh Arya has quickly emerged as a name to watch. The 24-year-old left-handed batter from Delhi showcased his explosive talent during the IPL 2025, lighting up the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mullanpur with a staggering 103 runs off just 42 balls. Playing for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Arya’s innings included 11 fours and 6 sixes, marking a remarkable entry into the annals of IPL history.

With this explosive knock, Arya didn’t just dazzle the spectators; he etched his name as the second-fastest Indian to score a century in the IPL, reaching the coveted 100-run mark in a mere 39 balls. Only the legendary Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball ton in 2010 stands ahead of him on this illustrious list. Arya’s performance places him in elite company, alongside international stars like Travis Head and David Miller, and just behind the iconic Chris Gayle in the record books of fastest IPL centuries.

Arya’s journey to this pinnacle moment began in the Delhi Premier League (DPL), where he first caught the cricketing world’s attention by smashing six sixes in an over, culminating in a brutal 120 off 50 balls. This performance not only showcased his raw power but also triggered a bidding war at the IPL 2025 auction, where PBKS secured his services for a hefty Rs 3.8 crore, a significant leap from his base price of Rs 30 lakh.

Before his IPL heroics, Arya had already been making waves in the domestic circuit. In the 2024-25 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), he emerged as Delhi’s top scorer, with a standout innings of 102 off 43 balls against Uttar Pradesh. His fearless approach and clean hitting earned him accolades from cricketing stalwarts, including R Ashwin, who praised Arya’s audacious pick-up shot off Washington Sundar.

Born in January 2001, Arya made his T20 debut for Delhi in the 2021 SMAT and followed it with a List A debut in 2023. Known for his strong base and clean striking, especially down the ground, Arya has now joined an elite club of uncapped players to score an IPL century, alongside names like Manish Pandey, Paul Valthaty, and Yashasvi Jaiswal.

From smashing records in Delhi to dominating IPL attacks, Priyansh Arya’s rise is a testament to his talent and determination. As we witness the arrival of this fearless new talent with the bat, the cricketing world eagerly anticipates what more he has in store.
