Rodrigues Guides India to Record ODI Total and Series Win Over Ireland
Jemimah Rodrigues crafted her maiden ODI century as India secured a commanding 116-run victory in the second ODI against Ireland, clinching an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match ICC Women’s Championship series.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, India Women posted a formidable 370 – their highest-ever ODI total – surpassing their previous best of 358, also achieved against Ireland back in 2017.
Stand-in skipper Smriti Mandhana (73) and Harleen Deol (89) also made significant contributions, helping the hosts set a commanding total.
After Mandhana provided India with a solid start, Deol partnered with Rodrigues to add a crucial 183 runs for the third wicket.
However, just as Deol was nearing her century, Arlene Kelly broke the partnership. Rodrigues, though, continued her fine form and reached her century in the final over, elegantly driving a boundary off Kelly through the off-side.
Highest ODI Totals (India Women)
Total | Opposition | Year |
---|---|---|
370/5 | Ireland | 2025 |
358/2 | Ireland | 2017 |
358/5 | West Indies | 2024 |
333/5 | England | 2022 |
325/3 | South Africa | 2024 |
Reflecting on her first hundred, Rodrigues said, “I am relieved. I am used to scoring hundreds in domestic cricket, but the lack of centuries in international cricket was bothering me.
“Sometimes you get a lot of overs, sometimes you don’t. I had to get back to how I used to play in my U19s, because I have played a lot of T20s.”
Defending a mammoth total, the Indian bowlers ensured victory with Deepti Sharma emerging as the standout performer, returning figures of 3/37.
For Ireland, Christina Coulter Reilly was the standout with the bat, scoring 80 off 113 deliveries, even as wickets fell regularly at the other end.
With another win and a game in hand in the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship cycle, India are second in the 10-team points table, four points behind Australia, who have clinched the title for a third successive time.
