In a heartfelt message to his team, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka addressed his players’ disappointment following an eight-wicket defeat to Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Wednesday. Speaking at the team huddle, Goenka emphasized the importance of moving forward despite the setback.
‘I think there are lots of great things that you have played better,’ Goenka remarked. ‘Congratulations to them, best wishes to you all. Say, this evening, you are entitled to your disappointment. Tomorrow morning, wake up fresh, forget about this, think about the next week. You have really got a great team. Just believe in yourself, look forward to tomorrow,’ he added, encouraging resilience and forward-thinking among the squad.
Batting first, LSG struggled to find their rhythm early in the innings, losing crucial wickets. Despite a fighting knock from Nicholas Pooran (44) and Ayush Badoni (41), LSG could only manage to post 171/7 in their 20 overs. Punjab’s bowling attack, led by Arshdeep Singh who claimed 3/43, kept the pressure on and restricted LSG from reaching a more competitive total.
The chase was dominated by Punjab Kings, thanks to an explosive innings from Prabhsimran Singh, who smashed 69 off just 34 balls. Supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer (52 not out), Singh’s performance dismantled LSG’s bowling. Nehal Wadhera chipped in with an unbeaten 43, ensuring Punjab cruised to victory with 22 balls remaining.
This victory propelled Punjab Kings to second place in the IPL standings, while LSG slipped to sixth. However, with Goenka’s backing and a talented squad at their disposal, LSG are poised to recover in their next match against Mumbai Indians on Friday.
