Sharma and Singh Ascend in ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings

Indian all-rounder Deepti Sharma has achieved a career-best second position, matching her previous best, while seam bowler Renuka Thakur is edging closer to her personal best in the ICC Women’s T20I Bowling Rankings. Their performances were instrumental in India’s 44-run triumph over Bangladesh in the first match of their five-T20I series.

Sharma’s impressive figures of one for 15 have propelled her up one spot, now only 34 rating points behind England’s Sophie Ecclestone, who tops the table with 759 rating points. Singh’s pivotal three for 18 helped her climb four places to fourth position, just shy of her third position achieved in October 2022.

Other Indian players making strides include left-arm spinner Radha Yadav, moving up from 51st to 46th, and Pooja Vastrakar, climbing from 41st to 38th in the bowling rankings. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (up two places to 17th) and wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh (up five places to 25th) have also made significant progress in the batting rankings.

Bangladesh also saw notable improvements with captain Nigar Sultana and young leg-spinner Rabeya Khan reaching career-high rankings. Nigar’s impressive 51-run knock has elevated her three places to 13th among batters, while Rabeya climbed eight places to eighth position after her three for 23 performance in Sylhet. New-ball bowler Marufa Akter has advanced 11 slots to 32nd position.

The latest weekly updates also consider performances from the first two matches of the five-match series between Pakistan and the West Indies, as well as the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi. Ireland’s Amy Hunter has moved up one slot to 19th position after scoring 71 against Zimbabwe, while her teammate Orla Prendergast has risen from 37th to 33rd.

West Indies captain Hayley Matthews, who was named Player of the Match in the second T20I after scoring 58 runs and taking three wickets, has matched her career-best fourth position among batters and solidified her position atop the all-rounders’ rankings.

Other players making progress in the batting rankings include Pakistan’s Nida Dar (up two places to 37th) and Muneeba Ali (up five places to 42nd), and Sri Lanka’s Nilakshi de Silva (up three places to 50th). In the bowling rankings, West Indies’ Karishma Ramharack (up 13 places to 22nd) and the Sri Lanka duo of Kavisha Dilhari (up three places to 26th) and Inoshi Fernando (up 20 places to 27th) have made significant strides.

In the Women’s ODI batting rankings, West Indies skipper Matthews has achieved a career-best seventh position after scoring 141 in the final match of their ICC Women’s Championship series against Pakistan, which the West Indies won 3-0. Matthews has also ascended one slot to sixth among bowlers.

Other players moving up the batting rankings include West Indies’ Stephanie Taylor (up two places to 16th) and Chinelle Henry (up seven places to 29th among bowlers), while Pakistan’s Aliya Riyaz has advanced four places to 35th among batters.
