In an electrifying display of batting prowess during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill carved his name into the annals of cricket history. Facing off against the Mumbai Indians at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Gill became the second-fastest player to amass 1000 IPL runs at a single venue, reaching this milestone in a mere 20 innings.
This remarkable achievement places Gill just behind the legendary Chris Gayle, who set the record at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru with 1000 runs in 19 innings. Following closely behind Gill is David Warner, who reached the same milestone in 22 innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Shaun Marsh rounds out the top four, having taken 26 innings at the PCA Stadium in Mohali.
The match itself started on a high note for Gujarat Titans, with Gill and his opening partner Sai Sudharsan setting the stage on fire. The duo raced to 66 runs without losing a wicket in the powerplay, marking the first time in the season that a team achieved a wicketless powerplay in the first innings.
Despite his record-breaking feat, Gill’s innings was cut short by Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians captain, in the ninth over. Gill departed after scoring a brisk 38 off 27 deliveries, including one six and four boundaries. Together with Sudharsan, they had put on a solid partnership of 78 runs in 8.3 overs, laying a strong foundation for their team’s innings.
