Sri Lanka’s Captain Dhananjaya de Silva Soars in Latest ICC Rankings
Following his outstanding performance in the first Test against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka’s captain, Dhananjaya de Silva, has made significant progress in the latest ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings.
De Silva’s impressive twin centuries in Sylhet led his team to a decisive 328-run victory over their Asian counterparts, propelling him to a new career-high rating in the updated Test batter rankings.
Men’s Test Batter Rankings
De Silva’s scores of 102 and 108 catapulted him a remarkable 15 places to 14th overall. The 32-year-old now boasts a personal best of 695 rating points, just 40 points shy of breaking into the world’s top 10 Test batters.
Another significant contributor was Kamindu Mendis, who also scored twin centuries in the first Test against Bangladesh. His stellar performance in only his second Test appearance saw him re-enter the Test batter rankings at joint 64th place.

For Bangladesh, veteran left-hander Mominul Haque stood out with an unbeaten 87* in the second innings in Sylhet, moving up eight places to 50th in the Test batter rankings.
Sri Lanka’s players also made significant strides in the updated Test bowler rankings, with right-arm quick Kasun Rajitha being one of the biggest movers following his five-wicket haul in the second innings against Bangladesh.
Men’s Test Bowler Rankings
Rajitha’s performance saw him climb six places to 38th overall. Teammates Vishwa Fernando (up seven spots to 43rd) and Lahiru Kumara (up six positions to joint 46th) also improved their standings following their impressive performances with the ball.
India’s Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin continue to lead the Test rankings for all-rounders. Notable movers this week include Bangladesh’s spinner Mehidy Hasan (up one place to 14th) and de Silva (up five spots to joint 25th).
