Veteran Rashid Khan’s Recovery Continues as Afghanistan Announces T20I Squads
As Rashid Khan continues his recovery from back surgery, Ibrahim Zadran will maintain his leadership of the T20I team.
The visitors have suffered another significant setback, with Mujeeb ur Rahman also missing out due to a right hand sprain sustained prior to the ODI series.
Wafadar Momand, who made his solitary appearance in 2023, has been recalled to the squad. Meanwhile, Mohammad Saleem Safi is still recuperating from a hamstring strain that ruled him out of the ODIs against Sri Lanka.
Young opener Ibrahim Zadran reflects on scoring Afghanistan’s first century at an ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup and his journey to becoming a rising star for the emerging team.
“We have consistently aimed to provide our young players with the exposure they deserve, a commitment we have maintained successfully so far,” said Naseeb Khan, the CEO of ACB.
“Building a strong bench strength is a priority for us, as we want to ensure we have good backups for our key players when needed, such as Qais Ahmad currently stepping in for Rashid Khan.”
The series will kick off on February 17 in Dambulla, with subsequent matches at the same venue on the 19th and 21st.
