Australia has sent a strong message to their rivals at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a commanding seven-wicket win over Namibia in their first warm-up match in Trinidad on Tuesday.
Despite the absence of several key players who are yet to arrive in the Caribbean, and the necessity to use their coaching staff as substitute fielders, the reigning T20 World Cup champions displayed impressive form. They chased down Namibia’s total of 119/9 with 10 overs to spare, thanks to a blistering half-century from David Warner (54*).
Warner, who had been struggling for form in the recent IPL, delivered a stellar performance at the Port of Spain venue, hitting six fours and three sixes off just 21 balls.
Josh Hazlewood (2/5) set the tone with an excellent opening spell that included three maidens. Adam Zampa (3/25), the team’s first-choice spinner, also bowled well. Namibia managed to cross the 100-run mark due to some late hitting from Zane Green (38).

Australian openers Mitchell Marsh and Warner put 39 runs on the board within three overs. The dismissals of Marsh (18) and stand-in No.3 Josh Inglis (5) brought Tim David (23) to the crease. The Aussies continued to score freely, hitting boundaries with ease.
David was dismissed in the ninth over by Bernard Scholtz (2/16), but Matthew Wade (12*) and Warner kept the momentum going, leading Australia to a comfortable victory.

Earlier in the day, the warm-up match between the USA and Bangladesh in Dallas was called off due to rain, while the Netherlands registered a commendable 20-run victory over Sri Lanka in Florida.
