West Indies Legend Joins Zimbabwe Women’s Cricket Team as Coaching Consultant
Former West Indies fast bowler, Courtney Walsh, has been appointed as a coaching consultant for the Zimbabwe women’s cricket team. The move comes as part of Zimbabwe’s strategy to secure a spot in the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 in Bangladesh.
The final two teams for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will be determined at the Qualifier tournament, set to commence on 25 April in the UAE.
Walsh, renowned for being the first cricketer to claim 500 Test wickets, is already actively involved with the Zimbabwe women’s team as they gear up for the 10-team tournament. The team is yet to make their debut at the Women’s T20 World Cup.

Zimbabwe Women found themselves in a precarious position at 35 for 5. However, all-rounder Precious Marange turned the tide by smashing her first ball over the boundary for the only sixer of the Zimbabwe innings.
“We are both fortunate and privileged to have Courtney on board as a technical consultant for our campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in Abu Dhabi,” said Zimbabwe Cricket Managing Director, Givemore Makoni.
“Courtney is one of the world’s greatest cricketers and we believe his experience, especially in the women’s game, will significantly enhance our chances of securing one of the two available spots at the main global event later this year.”
