Yograj Singh’s Bold Claim: ‘Make Me India’s Coach and I’ll Transform Rohit Sharma and Team’

NEW DELHI: In a recent episode of Taruwar Kohli’s ‘Find a Way’ podcast, former cricketer Yograj Singh made headlines with his passionate defense of India’s senior players, including Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Known for his outspoken nature, Yograj stirred the cricketing world with his bold claim: ‘If you make me the coach of the Indian team, I will use these same players to transform it into a side that will be unbeatable for ages.’

Yograj’s remarks come at a time when both Rohit and Virat have faced scrutiny over their form. He passionately argued against the calls to drop these stalwarts, stating, ‘People are always ready to throw them out — drop Rohit Sharma or drop Kohli — but why? They are going through a rough patch. I would treat them like my kids and tell them, ‘I am with you.’ I’ll tell them, let’s play Ranji Trophy, or I will make Rohit run 20km. Nobody does that. These players are diamonds. You don’t throw them out. I will be like their father.’

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians’ star batter Rohit Sharma was spotted enjoying a break from the cricket field. In a viral video circulating online, the former MI skipper was seen confidently navigating a boat in Jamnagar, joined by young batter Tilak Varma and a couple of support staff members. This leisure activity comes after Mumbai Indians’ disappointing start to their IPL 2025 campaign, where they lost their opener to Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.

Rohit’s struggles continued in the match as he was dismissed for a duck, falling victim to a left-arm pacer, Khaleel Ahmed. With their next game against Gujarat Titans looming, the MI squad took a break for team-bonding activities before resuming intense training.

As Mumbai Indians await the return of their regular skipper Hardik Pandya, who missed the first game due to a slow-over rate suspension, another major concern remains the availability of Jasprit Bumrah. MI’s bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has confirmed that Bumrah is making steady progress at the BCCI Centre of Excellence, but no official return date has been announced.
